Question:
I have an old 48x40inch trailer built in the 80s that Id like to convert from a 4 on 4 bolt pattern to a 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern to run larger tires for overlanding. frame is being strengthened, and it wont haul over 600lbs. Where do I begin?

You can change your utility trailer's hubs from the 4-on-4 wheel bolt pattern to the 5-on-4-1/2 pattern by selecting new hubs that use the same set of bearings as your current ones. The linked photo shows you the usual placement and appearance of bearing part numbers. Once you pull a hub and note the bearing numbers you can refer to the replacement hub page I linked for you.
Just click on your inner and outer bearings to see all the hubs that use those same bearings and that will fit on your existing spindles. We have both idler hubs for trailers without brakes and also hub/drum assemblies for trailers with drum brakes.
For example, if your axle is rated for 2000-lbs and uses the popular # L44643 inner/outer bearing you could use idler hub # AKIHUB-545-2-1K or hub/drum # AKHD-545-2-1K which work with 8, 10 and 12-inch wheels.
