For your 2001 Chevy Tracker 2WD there are a couple conditions that may be why you are seeing conflicting info. Your owners manual will state not to tow a 2WD vehicle 4 wheels down because there are other components in play and your transmission can be damaged.

If you have a 5 speed manual transmission you can tow it with 4 wheels on the ground but the manufacturer recommends not exceeding 55 mph and stopping every 200 miles to follow the instructions in your owners manual to circulate the fluids in your transfer case and transmission.

If you have an automatic transmission, there are two different transmission options with different information. If you have the 03-72LE then you will need a drive shaft coupling disconnect to flat tow it. If you have the 4L60E transmission then you can flat tow it with a lube pump (LP-BK01-006) but cannot tow it without it. We don't have those parts, but I can help you with all the other components if you need them.

The easiest and most cost efficient way to tow your vehicle is to use a tow dolly with the rear wheels off the ground on the dolly. I recommend using the Roadmaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes - 4,250 lbs # RM-2050-1 along with the 7-way plug for most applications # PK12706.
