Tow Ready Trailer Tail Light Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2010 Nissan Xterra
Updated 10/03/2011 | Published 09/30/2011 >
Question:
My 2010 Nissan Xterra does not have the Trailer Tow Package on it. I want to know if this trailer wiring harness will work properly on my Xterra. With my present wiring connector, 4 pin, I have turn and brake lights but no running lights for night driving. The Nissan dealer told me that you just can not tap into the running lights and make a connection. It will overload the system and blow the main electrical control unit. For running lights, there needs to be special capacitors and a wiring harness that connects certain circuits in the front side kick panel on passenger side.

The Curt T-Connector Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # C56225 that you referenced includes relays and uses the 12 volt power source that is behind the passenger side kick panel.
Once installed on your 2010 Nissan Xterra it would not overload the tail light circuitry of your vehicle as this unit draws the amperage needed to activate the 4-way circuits from an external 12 volt source. It only uses the tail light circuits as signal wires, and then draws the amperage from the external 12 volt source.
I attached installation instructions for this product for you to check out also.
