U-Bolt Hardware Threading on Curt Cargo Basket # C18115

Question:
I purchased this rack for my Subaru and love it, but Im concerned that the exposed threads and ends on the U bolts could damage any cargo that I put in the basket. Do you happen to know the gauge on the screw ends on the U bolts? Home Depot has Screw Protectors that I would like to buy for this solution but I dont know what size to get. Thank you!

The Curt Roof Mounted Cargo Basket # C18115 has u-bolt hardware that is 6mm by 1 inch threading according to my contact at Curt Tech.
