Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Subaru Forester we'll be installing Curt's roof mounted cargo basket, part number C18115. This is a nice simple cargo carrier. It's great because it doesn't interfere with any of the operations that come factory on your vehicle. It's the economy option, it's got plenty of tie-down points and what I like best about it, is that you have that option to extend it. So if you're going on those longer trips, your family gets bigger, this thing is going to keep growing with you. This cargo basket is going to increase your vehicle's carrying capacity to be able to put more gear on top of your roof or you can take gear that was inside your vehicle and put it on the roof and now you've got more room for passengers inside the vehicle. It measures 41 1/2 inches long, 37 inches wide and 4 inches deep, and features 150 pound carrying capacity. Now you do want to check your vehicle's owner's manual to make sure you're not exceeding the carrying capacity of your factory roof rails. Now, if you need more carrying capacity you can get an extension that will add 21 inches of length, bringing it to to a total of 62 1/2 inches.
You can get this extension using part number C18117 or if you had purchased the the longer kit, it was already included. As you can see here, there's plenty of clearance between our hatch when it's fully open and as well, our antenna so we don't have to worry about any clearance issues at the rear of our vehicle. And as you can see here, it's not going to interfere with the operation of the factory sunroof. To help reduce wind noise, there's a fairing, located in the front and this will help direct the air up, over top of your cargo. The cross rails on the bottom and sides provide plenty of tie-down points. And if you have smaller cargo that you're worried about, you can get a cargo net such as the one from Curt using part number C18200.This cargo basket is lightweight and easy to set on top of your roof. Once you've got it set up there, you want to make sure you set your distance between your crossbars so that it's as far to each edge as possible and they line up between two of the cross rails on the cargo basket. We've already got three of our clamps installed.
Now we'll show you how to do the third now. You'll begin by taking the plastic spacer, placing it between your roof rail and your cargo basket. Make sure it snaps into place, in between the two cross rails. Then take the metal clamp and put it on top of the cargo basket, over your plastic spacer. Then take the u-bolt, go underneath your crossbar, slide it up between the outer slits of the spacer up into the holes in the metal clamp. Now thread the plastic nuts on each side of the u-bolt.
Once you've got them run down, make sure that you get them nice and tight so your cargo basket doesn't slide around on your rails and keeps all of your cargo secure. And you repeat that same process for all of your remaining clamps. Now that we've got it installed get ready to load it up and hit he road. And that completes our installation of Curt's roof mounted cargo basket, on our 2018 Subaru Forester.

Free up room in your vehicle by packing your gear into this roof-mounted cargo basket. The sturdy steel carrier attaches easily to most factory and aftermarket roof racks. The included fairing reduces wind noise and drag.I am very pleased with the quality for the price.Just the right size for my 2017 Chevy Trax.the "U" bolts that are used to clamp the basket to the roof cross bars were a bit long so I cut them shorter & installed rubber caps on top of each stud. This keeps the studs from damaging items in the bssket.See pictures.
Works great, but takes some slight modification if you don’t want the bolts to poke through anything you have stored up there. Could be less of a problem depending on the cross bars you use, but I bought Curt’s cross bars and the bolts stick up pretty far.
I am pleased with the quality of workmanship of the Curt roof cargo basket. The Curt was installed on a new 2021 Subaru Outback. This additional space will serve us well on road trips. Thank you in your promptness to ship the rack.
After one year, I have only used this a couple of times during a camping trip. It was easy to assemble and install on my 2017 Subaru Outback. I did modify the bolts slightly because the rails on the Outback are a little thinner than some so I cut about a half inch off the bolts so they were sticking up into the cargo area. I used this with the cargo net to hold everything in place and it worked perfectly. Items did not move around and provided more than enough room for totes of camping gear. The only slight drawback was that it caused the Sirius signal to cut out a few times since the rack was close to but not touching the shark fin antenna.
The reason I bought this basket is due to gas prices. I have a 4X4 suburban I use for camping and hunting but it takes a small loan to fill up the tank. Actually this basket cost less than it does to fill it up. So my thought was if i can get all my gear on my daily driver then i could save some money and maybe even sale the burb. So i gave it a shot last weekend. The rack was easy to put together. I had it out of the box and on the roof in under 30 minutes. As you can see in the pic, i have a rather large ice chest, chain saw, 6 man tent, gas stove and my chair on the roof. My camping destination was about 3 hours away. First was a hour of highway driving at speeds around 70. No issues there. Then 2 hours of windy back roads. No issues there either. The basket made it possible for me and my two kids to load up in the car and head to the hills for three days. The plus for me was it only takes 50$ to fill up the car. :-) I had the max weight in this basket with no issues. I'm very happy with this basket.
Jamie, thanks for replying to David's question. David, this Curt Cargo Carrier works on most aftermarket roof racks, and fits crossbars up to 3 inches wide, and 1-5/8 inches tall. This should work well on your existing Yakima roof rack. The top bars on this Curt cargo basket are indeed round, and are a little smaller than 1 inch. I measured one from our warehouse, and it was 0.88 of an inch which is about 7/8 of an inch.
--The finish on this was awful. Part of it looks like the paint peeled, and then it was painted over. The only reason I'm not sending this back is because I need to use it right away.
Quality is good, construction seems burley - installation went well. I had to shorten the U bolts as they were long and protruding into the cargo area which would have certainly damaged contents of basket. But modifications I made should solve the problem.
Great product for the price! Note:the clamps/u-bolts that mount it to the cross bars are a one-size-fits-all kind of deal so be prepared to cut the ends off!
The service from etrailer was great! The product was shipped and received incredibly fast. This is The actual product itself was bent a little but was still able to put together and was missing a nut for one of the bolts. I have no real complaints and would definitely buy again.
Regarding the Curt product, overall very nice but missing a nut and had two small areas where paint was rubbed off due to factory packaging. The etrailer experience was 5 star all around.
The Curt cargo basket seem , good , for the price . Easy to put together all hardware seems good . Only concern is the threaded clamps seems a bit weak and not rust proof . Wish they had an option to purchase better quality clamps .
I am a new customer and must say that I will continue to be one. etrailer's ease of website ordering, fast turnaround, courteous emails and excellent order tracking made for a fantastic experience. The Curt Cargo basket is well made and easy to assemble. Compared to the price of other baskets, this one is a great deal! Thanks etrailer. I look forward to purchasing from you in the future.
It's strong, sturdy, and looks good. The bolts were a little long, and protruded into the cargo area of the basket, but that's to be expected because it has to be able to fit all different size crossbars. I just cut them shorter, but some people who don't have access to our experience with tools will have to deal with those bolts sticking up.
Thule aeroblade w/ Curt rack. Used this Christmas for a family trip to Gatlinburg, TN and through the Smokey Mountains. It worked great to get all our gear there and back! Thanks for getting it to us on time.
I rarely give five stars so four is fitting here. It’s good! A good buy and a good product. Very easy to put on. Anyone can do it. Took me under ten minutes from unpacking to install. I like the lock feature. Very sturdy, obviously this is on a Subaru so I’m not going to load ten sheets of plywood on it lol but I’ll be putting a basket on them soon.
Everything fits, works and looks great! Excellent service too!
You may be able to lightly sand off the rust and apply paint to help prevent anymore rust from growing.
--Looks great and fit perfectly on my 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Sport!!!I should have ordered a cargo net. I will have to now!!
I have been looking for a roof top basket for my small SUV. I got some much needed information from Andrew N. and decided to order. One issue I had with other baskets is the length of the arms on the U-bolts. Most were way too short and would not fit my aftermarket crossbars. I got the answer I was looking for from Andrew (he deserves 5 stars). Now to the reason for the 4 stars: The basket arrived in good condition and my daughter and I were able to assemble the basket. But the instructions could be clearer. It did take us about an hour to figure out what was what, but once we did, we assembled in about 45 minutes. We haven't used it yet so I'm not able to get a review on the use. For now, I'm happy that it actually fits.
I inputted that I had a 2014 Honda CRV, and this Curt model was listed. It does not fit properly on a 2014 Honda CRV. I had cut up the box prior to putting it on the vehicle, because I was going to wash the car first. My mistake. I rigged it to hopefully stay on. Call and confirm first and don’t chop up the box before verifying.
It's been on my car all year (through a brutal winter and hot summer) and haven't noticed any discoloring or rust. Overall, pretty great quality!
Product recieved as stated. Mounted on 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman with Mini base system. Very satisfied with this basket. Looks real good on car. A little noise traveling on a windy day but nothing that is all that bothersome.
Greatly increased the cargo capability of our EcoSport. Easy to put onto the rack and take off.
Arrived very quickly . Took about an hour to put together and install on my 2004 Toyota Highlander and it looks great !!!! Very solid and doesn’t rattle at all!!
Product was easy to order. Shipping was right on schedule. Very easy to install. Looks great on my Toyota Rav4. Awesome job again etrailer!!! I be back ordering again very soon!!!!!
Thank you etrailer my car looks great I spent 4 hours to ensemble this cross bar and the bask rack but finally I made it now I have more cargo space in my car I really recommend etrailer good quality items and good service thanks again
