Is the height adjustable. Up an down. Gonna use it for rod pods to haul fishing rods in. But id like to be able to adjust the height so there close to the roof of my truck

I wish we had an adjustable height ladder rack we could recommend, but nothing we offer in this style of side-mount ladder rack is height adjustable. For an adjustable height ladder rack that does fit your 1997 Dodge Dakota the only option would be a rack like the Thule Xsporter part # TH500XT which is a confirmed fit.
