How to Convert Hydraulic Drum Brakes to Electric Over Hydraulic EOH

Question:

I have a trailer with 2 8k ez lube axles not sure of brand with 12 1/4 x 3 3/8 drum brakes. I was wondering if there was a kit to convert the brakes to electric over hydraulic brakes? thank you,

In order to convert the hydraulic drum brakes you have on your trailer to electric over hydraulic (EOH) you will need a electric over hydraulic actuator, breakaway kit, brake controller, trailer wiring harness, and trailer coupler. We do have all of these components for you but not in an all inclusive kit.

For the electric over hydraulic actuator, breakaway kit, and trailer wiring I recommend the HydraStar Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator part # HS381-9065. This kit contain the bulk of what you will need to convert your trailer to electric over hydraulic. For the trailer coupler, I recommend using the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler part # DM13203-95 if you have a straight pull trailer or the Demco 50-Degree A-Frame Trailer Coupler part # DM13205-95 if you have an a-frame trailer. Please keep in mind that you could also just have the coupler welded which would eliminate the need for a new one.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3035-P. If you have a factory 4-way then you will also need to use the Ford Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness part # 118243.
