Question:
Electric hook up for Rav4 most require a lead direct to the battery. My 2011 Rav4 has a 12 volt cig lighter receptal near the back door. Could that be used for the power source?

On the 2011 Toyota RAV4, when using the CURT T-Connector Trailer Wiring Harness, # C56165, you must connect the power wire directly to the vehicle battery via the included fuse and fuse holder.
The reason you cannot use another power source is that other power sources are fused separately and in the case of a cigarette lighter type of connector, are rated for more power draw than the wiring harness is. If there were to be a problem, it could damage the electrical system on the vehicle.
The harness requires its own dedicated power source. I have included a link to the installation details for you to view.
