Updated 07/05/2020 | Published 06/09/2018 >
Question:
I picked up a new old propane tank that has a quick release adaptor on it. I cant figure out how to get it off so I can use the tank properly. Please see the picture I attached so this makes sense.

There isn't really any advice I have on removing the quick disconnect fitting other than getting a wrench and plenty of elbow grease. It's in a POL thread which means it's a left-hand thread so keep that in mind.
Once you get the quick disconnect out you can use a standard pigtail hose with a Type 1 ACME nut like part # 100473-12 on it.

Thanks Charles - did not know these POL Fittings have a reverse "INNER" thread (counter-clockwise to tighten), while the "OUTER" thread is standard (clockwise to tighten). I used a thin set of vice-grips to lock down and loosen the quick-connect fitting - its shouldn't be that tight, if it is...may wanna check the bonnet packing within to see if it has been smashed/damaged from over-tightening...test for leaks with a spray bottle of soapy water (google it) - if its leaking replace the packing or replace the valve/tank.
