Question:

I have a 2017 highlander with the tow package, I installed the Curtis harness hooked up to a trailer and the lights don’t work ?????

The first thing that you want to do is troubleshoot the Curt T-Connector 4-Way # 56042 itself. You can do this with a circuit tester like part # PTW2979. If you are getting signals then that means you likely have a short or damaged wiring on your trailer. If you don't get signals then you either need some fuses or relays on your 2017 Toyota Highlander. There could be wiring damage on your Highlander but I doubt it since the vehicle is so new.

If the problem is on your trailer side check your grounds to make sure they are secure and connected to a clean, bare-metal surface as even some paint can cause issues. After checking your ground check the wiring itself and change out any sections that look questionable.
