Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2017 Ford Explorer Sport Behind Monaco Motorhome with Air Brakes
Question:
Im looking for the parts to flat tow my 2017 Ford Explorer Sport, Ive read different things about the battery disconnect, the Sport Editioninch is different, and other things. I dont have Adaptive Cruise Control or the Grill Shudders. But Im towing with my 2006 Monaco Windsor and would like to use the air brakes off the coach if possible. What do you recommend?

Flat towing your Explorer Sport behind your Monaco will require a few items and all are detailed in the linked overview article on flat towing.
The items include a tow bar, safety cables, a wiring or lighting kit of some kind, base plates and a braking system for the towed car and also a high/low hitch adapter to keep the tow bar level. I also included some additional help articles for reference.
I checked the online owner's manual for the vehicle and there is no distinction made for the Sport model but you might find different information in your printed manual so I suggest checking it for any guidance or restrictions. Note that the front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive models CANNOT be flat towed according to page 244 of the online manual.
For base plates I suggest the Blue Ox # BX2668 (please see the linked install video). For a tow bar I like their Alpha # BX7380 since it includes the safety cables. For wiring use Roadmaster kit # RM-15267 along with Battery Disconnect # RM-766. For a braking system that works with your motorhome air brakes we often recommend the SMI Air Force One # SM99243 which provides proportional braking of the towed vehicle and a one-time install.
