Recommended Replacement for Boat Trailer with ST205/75R14 Tires

Updated 05/25/2018 | Published 05/24/2018

Question:

I have an 18 ft ski boat and trailer. The boat weighs about 2300 lbs dry. I dont know what the trailer weighs. I am trying to find replacement tires for ST205/75R14. What load rating should I get? Will I need to balance the tires if i purchase them with the wheels? I was looking at the Kenda Karrier. Suggestions for me? Thanks

The load range of the ST205/75R14 tires you choose will need to be sufficient for the weight of both your boat and trailer. You can determine this by weighing both the boat and trailer then finding the capacity of the tire and multiplying that by the number of tires on the trailer. The weight capacity of the tires will need to be greater than the weight of the boat/trailer.

For example, if you choose a load range B tire then the weight of the boat/trailer cannot exceed 2,860 lbs for a single axle trailer or 5,720 lbs for a dual axle trailer. If you choose a load range C tire then the weight of the boat/trailer cannot exceed 3,850 lbs for a single axle trailer or 7,700 lbs for a dual axle trailer. If you choose a load range D tire then the weight of the boat/trailer cannot exceed 4,400 lbs for a single axle trailer or 8,800 lbs for a dual axle trailer.

You can take a look at the sidewalls on the tires you have now to see what load range they are. However, based on the dry weight of your boat, I believe a load range C would be sufficient for you. If you are just looking to replace the tire I recommend part # AM10234 but if you are looking to replace the tire/wheel then I recommend part # AM32156.

All of our wheel/tire combos come pre-balanced to an extent. The heavy spot on the wheel is aligned with the light spot on the tire to create a balance that is sufficient for use on trailers. They are not completely balanced and will need to be taken to a reputable shop to be zeroed out should you choose but the light/heavy spot method will be more than sufficient for most trailers.

I have attached a review video of both the tire and wheel/tire combo for you as well.
