Question:
I do not want to cut into the bumper with a dealership hitch. I am not sure if there is a different configuration for the T8 in contrast to the T6 as the fuel tank and inclusion of the battery are different. With the wiring harness - does this integrate into the Volvo on board computer system for towing? I would be pulling a 5,000lb plus trailer. Do you have preferred dealers in Metro Vancouver with experience with this type of install?

The available trailer hitches for your 2018 Volvo XC90 will require varying degrees of vehicle modification for installation.
The Curt hitch # C53HR does not require any drilling but does require some fascia trimming and heat shield modification. I have linked the instructions for installation for you. This hitch is listed as a fit for all styles of the 2018 XC90 including the T8.
Curt hitch # C13233 does require drilling but does not require trimming the fascia. It does require modifying a heat shield and skid shield if equipped. I have linked the instructions and a video showing an example installation of this hitch as well. This hitch is listed as a fit for the T8 R-Design, T8 momentum, T8 Inscription, and T8 Excellence as well as numerous versions of the T5 and T6.
Trailer wiring harnesses # 118683 and # C56285 plug in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. They do not connect to any sort of factory tow package wiring on the vehicle. I have linked a video showing an example installation of # 118683 and the instructions for both harnesses for you.
Since it sounds like you will be doing some towing I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
Any trusted mechanic or RV dealer with a service center could perform the installations for you.
