I notice that the fairings come in a 40in and a 31in and I was trying to figure out which would be a better fit for my 2015 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk.

I assume that you are also looking at Inno roof racks for your 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. The available roof racks from Inno for your Cherokee all fit models with raised factory side rails. Because the distance between the side rails is less than 40 inches you would need to use the 31 inch model # INA260 or # INA270.
The mounting clamps on the 40 and 48 inch models would be too far apart to properly fit.
