Question:
I have a heavy equipment trailer that came with 9.5 16.5 inch tires for clearance. It is a low deck- split beam trailer. Hard to find those tires. 2,35 80R 16 are slightly taller. Would you have a recommendation for a shorter tire in a 16 to replace the 16.5 Know I will have to buy wheels.

The 235/80-16 sizes tires are the closest size that we have to your 9.5-16.5 tires. Your current tires should have a diameter of 30.6" and the 235/80-16 tires measure 30.9" in diameter. When it comes to clearance with your trailer you will actually be reducing that by only 0.15" since diameter is from one end of the tire directly across to the other side of the tire.
If this works out for you then I recommend going with the Taskmaster Contender Radial Trailer Tire # C23516E which has a load range of E (3,520 lbs at 80 psi) and a max speed rating of 81 mph. If you need a wheel with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern use part # AC16R6SMV but for an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern use part # AC16R8SMV.
Contender ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 16" Silver Mod Wheel - 6 on 5-1/2 - Load Range E
