I am looking for a new coupler for my trailer. I switching from surge to electric brakes so I just needs a standard coupler. The channel is 3in wide and the trailer with boat weights around 5400lbs

The coupler I recommend for your boat trailer is the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # 12564, which fits a 3" wide channel tongue, has a 10,000 lb capacity and uses the eZ-Latch system to fit a 2" hitch ball. This will allow you to hook up the latch simply by dropping the coupler over the hitch ball.

The only difference between the Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler part #12564 and Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler part #DM12717 is the bolt pattern which is just slightly different with one having an extra hole.

As shown in the provided photo, the approximate distance from the centerline of the trailer ball to the end of the coupler is 12 inches. The Demco #12564 accepts a 2 inch trailer ball.

The Demco Trailer Coupler part #12564 that you referenced does not come with mounting bolts. You would need to supply them. A local hardware store would have no problem getting you setup with nuts and bolts. The hole diameters are 1/2 inch.
