Can the Kuat Pivot be Used with Recon Racks or North Shore Racks that Hold Bikes Vertically

Question:

Hello. I am wondering the compatibility of the Kuat Pivot with a rack like the Recon Rack or North Shore Rack where the bikes hang rather than sit on a platform. Ideally I want the Recon Rack 4 bike holder. It weighs 68 pounds. I know the Kuat Pivot can hold 250 pounds. I’m just wondering if there would be any weird/different stresses with a non-platform rack, especially when the the Pivot is actually swung out away from the vehicle. Thanks for your help!

We have a similar bike rack to what you referenced in the Softride Hang2 # SR27041 but it is only a 2 bike model.

Provided that the rack you want fits a 2 inch receiver and when loaded is within the capacity limits you can use the Kuat Pivot # PVP20B. The only issue I can think of with that type of bike rack is loading and unloading. The Pivot will raise the height of the rack from where it would normally be in the trailer hitch upwards but only by a few inches.
