Would a Hitch or Roof Rack be a Better Option for Bike Rack on 2018 Honda Fit?

Question:

I have a 2018 Honda Fit EX and I was wondering whether it would be better to put a Bike rack on the roof or Hitch Mount for when I put my bike on the car? I dont plan to do long trips, mainly stay local within my town or surrounding areas.

I recommend using a hitch and hitch-mounted bike rack on your 2018 Honda Fit for a couple reasons. The first is convenience; it is going to be much easier for you to mount your bikes on a hitch-mounted rack as opposed to a roof rack where you'd have to lift the bike on top of your car as opposed to simply placing it in the hitch rack. The other reason is cost; a roof rack will be far pricier than a hitch, and you can either pocket those savings or use it to get a premium bike rack.

As for the hitch I recommend using the Draw-Tite # 24920 which is a Class I, 1-1/4" hitch which is a complete bolt-on installation so no drilling in your Honda's frame will be required. For the bike rack there are a couple of options I recommend taking a look at.

I recommend the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 1 Bike - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount
Item # KU64FR which fits a class 1 hitch. It has a weight capacity of 60lbs and fits tires up to 3" wide. The wheel-mount design allows for different frame designs.
