I have a solution for you that you may find better than putting a hitch on the back of the trailer. Take a look at CURT Multipurpose Ball Mount, # D210. With this ball mount, you would be able to tow the trailer with the ball mount portion and carrier a cargo carrier on the top receiver portion, provided that the combined tongue weight of the trailer, cargo carrier, and generator does not exceed 750 pounds, and the total weight placed in the ball mount receiver does not exceed 350 lbs.
The ball mount portion accepts a ball with a 1 inch diameter shank. If needed, you can use # 19260 (1-7/8 inch diameter), # 63845 (2 inch diameter), or # 63847 (2-5/16 inch diameter).
For a cargo carrier, you could go with something like # 6502, for a folding carrier, or # 63153 for a non-folding carrier. I have included links to the installation details and video reviews for both carriers
If you would rather go with a hitch for the back of the trailer, the best option would be a frame mounted hitch. The most versatile one we carry is the CURT Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 13703, that fits frames from 22 inches to 72 inches wide. It will also fit I-Beam, C-Channel, or Box frames. The 2 inch receiver has a 350 pound tongue weight capacity. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the hitch.
CURT requires the use of a stabilization strap of your choosing for non-trailer loads (such as a cargo carrier). The strap will reduce some of the stress on the hitch and frame. This is a good idea since at the back of a trailer, there will be a rougher ride. I have included a link to our cargo management main page for you.
