Can a 2,500 lb Winch Use a Strap in Place of a Steel Cable

Updated 03/16/2018 | Published 03/15/2018

Question:

Can you please tell me if I can convert my old hand crank 2,500 lbs. winch on a loadrite 28’ trailer from a old rusted steel cable to a strap without replacing the winch? Thanks,

Some winches, like the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL15440, can use either a cable or strap. This particular winch can take a 3/8" cable up to 30' long or a 2" strap up to 25' long.

Without knowing what winch you have I can't really verify if you can use a strap in place of a cable. If you know who the manufacturer is and what model number you have I can contact the manufacturer if it is someone that we carry. If it is not a manufacturer that we deal with then you would need to contact them to see if it is possible or not.
