Question:

Hello I want to install aftermarket flatbed and utilize the factory setup that came on truck. Is there a taller ball that fits? My new deck height will be 6/7 inch’s higher than stock bed. any other issues I might yabe ??Ram factory gooseneck

If you install an aftermarket flat-bed that is 6-7 inches higher than the stock bed, you would need to create a recessed pocket for your gooseneck hitch to be used which many of the aftermarket companies account for. It is not uncommon on flatbed truck beds to have that recessed gooseneck. The only thing to be aware of is the turning clearance needed for your flat bed when using a gooseneck trailer. You will want to make sure you account for the pivot point to ensure you will be able to use your trailer with your bed.

Often, you will need an offset coupler like the B&W Extend-A-Goose Gooseneck Coupler - 2-5/16" Ball - 10" Offset # BWTEXA4200 for turning clearance with a flat bed due to the longer and wider bed edges.

You also will not be able to use a 5th wheel adapter with that type of setup, so if you want to tow a 5th wheel, then you would need the Reese Low-Profile 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw # RP30054 to secure to the flat bed itself instead of using the frame mounted rails.
