When selecting a weight distribution system for your R-Pod 171, the key factor is the tongue weight (TW) of your towing setup. This means the total load of your trailer with all the gear and supplies included. You will also need to add any weight from behind your tow vehicle's rear axle to determine total tongue weight. TW is 10% to 15% of the total weight of your fully loaded trailer. For example: a trailer fully loaded at 3,500-lbs would have a TW of 350-lbs to 525-lbs. Ideally, you want your total TW to land in the middle of a weight distribution system's operating range. A handy tool to use to measure TW is the etrailer Trailer Tongue Weight Scale, Item # e99044, and I have attached an article that gives more details.
Based on your R-Pod 171 weight capacity, I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution with 4-Point Sway Control, Item # EQ37041ET, which has a maximum TW of 400-lbs. Your R-Pod is designed to have a maximum fully loaded capacity of approximately 3,200-lbs.You will need to find your actual loaded weight including weight behind you tow vehicle's rear axles to determine total TW.
If your total TW is greater than 400-lbs then I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution with 4-point Sway Control, Item # EQ37060ET, which has a maximum TW of 600-lbs.
If you do not already have a shank then you will need one for the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System, Item # EQ37041ET. Depending on what you need, I recommend:
Item # EQ90-02-4140 for up to 7 inches of rise or 3 inches of drop
Item # EQ90-02-4240 for up to 8 inches of rise or 4 inches of drop
Item # EQ90-02-4340 for up to 10 inches of rise or 6 inches of drop
While not required, I recommend the Chromium Vanadium Steel Socket, Item # ALL643216, to make installation of the hitch ball on the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System easier.
