Question:

I saw your very helpful answer about the skybox nx 16 fitting the factory roof rails and crossbars on a 2017 CRV. My question is will it allow the rear tailgate to fully open when it is installed?

The Yakima Skybox NX 16, part # Y95AV is a confirmed fit for the 2018 Honda CR-V's factory kit.

You can double check for hatch compatibility by taking a measurement on your vehicle. If the bars are adjustable, move them as far forward as they will go. Then, measure from the center of the front bar to the line where the rear hatch meets the roof. This is your front clearance. For the Skybox NX 16 to allow the hatch to open, this distance must be at least 47 inches.

There is a little bit of play that you can get out of the SkyBox because of its adjustable mounting tracks, so keep in mind you can finesse this measurement a little bit.

If the SkyBox NX 16 is too big, then I recommend the RocketBox Pro 14, part # Y07192, which is a little smaller, but only requires 45 inches of clearance to operate the rear hatch.

I've included a video review of both boxes, and a simple illustration showing the measurement so you can get more familiar with fitting the box to your vehicle.
