Cargo Carriers for a 2017 Jeep Cherokee

Updated 01/29/2018 | Published 01/27/2018

Question:

Hello, I recently got a 2017 Jeep Cherokee, I have the two bars on the side of my roof, however I have a sun and moon roof that runs the length of the front and back seat. This summer I am going on a road trip from Minnesota to the Oregon coast, and it would be beneficial for me to be able to pack some of my camping gear on the roof since there is limited space in my jeep. I was just wondering what would be the best option for me to look into, since I know I cant just carry it on the sunroof glass. Thank you!

For your trip, the best solution will likely be a roof bag, rather than going with a full roof system.

Prior to purchase, you'll want to verify your roof's weight capacity, and that you have sufficient space off of the sunroof, or at least not primarily on the sunroof, for best performance.

The Rightline Gear Ace 2, part # RL100A20 offers an additional 15 cubic feet of space to the top of your vehicle, without requiring a full roof rack installation. This bag mounts to your raised rails or into the door jambs of your vehicle and is easy to install.

Because part of the bag will likely go over your sunroof, I recommend the Non-Skid Roof Protection pad, part # RL100650. This will help protect the vehicle's surface from scratches, and keep the bag stationary.

Finally, because of the distance of the trip, the Rightline Cable Lock, part # RL100640 can be used to lock the bag's zippers and the bag to the roof rack , adding to security when you have to step away from the vehicle or stop overnight.

I've included a video review of the bag so you can get an idea of its features and performance.
