How to Lock a Roof Mounted Cargo Bag to a Roof that has No Roof Rack

Published 12/22/2021

Question:

Do you have a locking mechanism that is made for a naked roof? I’m thinking of purchasing a cargo bag that clips to the weather molding off the floor dots doors of my SUV. but this lock I’m viewing is specified to lock to the roof rails. I have no roof rails. Thanks

I have a solution for you. When using a roof top cargo bag like the Rightline Gear Sport 2 Rooftop Cargo Bag # RL100S20 you can use the Cable Lock for Rightline Gear Cargo Bags # RL100640 to secure your bag's zipper, lock the bag to your roof rack, or do both. Since you do not have a roof rack to lock the cargo bag to, you can use the SeaSucker Cable Anchor for Cable Lock # 298-BA0010 to provide an anchor point for the cable lock. You would just roll your window down slightly, place the anchor on the window and then roll your window up securing the anchor. You could then feed the # RL100640 through the cargo bags zippers and through the anchor. You could also use a cable lock like the etrailer Cable Lock # e98891 if you wanted a thicker cable, you just wouldn't be able to feed it through the zippers like with the # RL100640.
