How to Fix Muffler Hitting Trailer Hitch Bolt
Published 01/18/2018 >
Question:
Despite the clearance and using the stock Honda muffler hangers, the muffler still knocks against the bolt installed right above the muffler. Short of grinding the nut down or replacing the hangers what could be done?

We do have some solutions for you, but I definitely would not grind down any hardware that was used to install the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11416 on your 2016-2018 Honda HR-V. This could compromise the integrity of the hardware and lead to failure in the future.
We actually have a helpful article dedicated to resolving this issue as it is very common after trailer hitch installations. The solutions presented include bending the exhaust hanger (for weld-on hangers), repositioning the hanger (for bolt-on hangers), or replacing the rubber isolator with a longer one to allow the exhaust to hang a little lower. If you were to replace the rubber isolator you can find replacements at an auto parts store.
I have attached a link to the helpful article for you to check out. It includes pictures to help demonstrate.
