Question:

Does the bar depress or replace the existing latch? I can't tell.

The Camco RV Adjustable Screen Door Cross Bar # CAM42183 referenced in your question will simply mount accross the RV screen door at your desired location. It will not depress or replace an existing latch on the door and is simply to provide the door a more sturdy feel and prevent damage from people pushing through the screen. The needed hardware is included.
