what size padlock would you use to lock the zippers together?

If you check out the attached review video of the Curt Cargo Bag # C18210 (about the 2:00 mark) our video team member already measured the zippers to have a hole that is about 3/8" diameter so you will just need a padlock with a shackle diameter smaller than 3/8" to use with the bag.
The Master Lock Brass Padlock - 1-1/2" Wide - Long Shackle # ML4140LH has a shackle diameter of 1/4" so it should work just great for your application. If you would like a smaller diameter shackle then I recommend the Master Lock Covered, Solid Body Padlock # 131D with a 3/16" diameter shackle instead.
