If your 2000 Dodge Dakota came with a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector, you will need the Tekonsha Wire Replacement for Dodge Vehicles, part # 3020-P, to install the Draw-Tite Brake Controller, part # 5504 This adapter will plug into the back of the brake controller and the plug on the other end will plug into the factory brake controller port on your vehicle.

The factory plug is located underneath and left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. There will be a 4-pin connector that mates with the one on the adapter. I am including a link to a video of this adapter being installed in a 2003 Dodge Dakota.

If your Dakota did not come with a factory installed 7-Way, then you will need a different set up. First, you will need to install a 4-Way wiring harness if the truck does not already have one. Use part # 118329. Then you will need to install a 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7 and use the Draw-Tite Replacement Brake Control Plug-In Harness, part # 20127.

I have included a link to a video of the wiring harness being installed on a Dakota and a link to a FAQ page on installing the ETBC7 kit.
