Question:

Hello, Id like to install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - in a Mazda CX-9 2017. Mazda told me the maximum weight that can be loaded in the cx9 is 350 pounds different to what I read in the specifications of the hitch. The Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 76020 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2017 Mazda CX-9. As you mentioned, the 2 inch hitch features a 4,500 pound towing weight capacity and a 675 pound tongue weight capacity. I took a look at the online owner's manual for your CX-9 and found a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.

A towing setup is always going to be limited by its weakest component. This simply means that the weight of your trailer will need to fall below whichever component in your setup has the lowest capacity, which in your case is the vehicle itself. Even though the trailer hitch is rated for much more, you will need to stay below the 3,500 pound towing capacity of the vehicle.

I have attached an installation video for the Draw-Tite hitch on your Mazda CX-9 that you can use for reference.

Since it sounds like you will be doing some towing, I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118278 if your vehicle has the factory tow package. This custom-fit harness will install by connecting directly to the built-in ports behind the passenger side trim panel. This will give you a 4-Way at the rear of your CX-9 to connect with and power the trailer's signal lights. If you do not have the factory tow package, you will need the Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit # C59496 instead.

In order to tow a trailer, you will also need a ball mount and hitch ball. I have attached a great article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup, along with a link that will take you to our available selection. I have also included a couple articles on towing a trailer that you might find helpful.
