Where to Install the Kat's Engine Block Heater on a 2012 2.4L I4 Toyota Engine

Published 12/01/2017

Question:

I am having trouble finding the location on my 2012 Tucson Limited with the 2.4 ltr with a traverse engine front wheel drive. I seen a post that shows from the drivers seat looking forward which shows the Locations as for the front left side of the engine block on the drivers side towards the radiator. As it states in the directions for the 2012 Hyundai Tucson that it installs in the FL front left of the 2.4 ltr block. I have looked all over and I found only one location that it would possibly fit and that is on the rear of the engine just above the transmission which looks like where it could possibly go but the transmission bell housing does not allow for the 11812 case type block heater to pass by the larger plugin end of the case block heater. I refer to the engine block as looking from back of the engine where the transmission bolts to the engine block as I have been an automotive mechanic for over 25 yrs. I am a bit confused on the location stated as FL front left side of the engine block as to me that would be the front or view from passengers wheel well on the block with the left bank being towards the radiator but still facing the passengers side wheel well. Can someone please inform me of the Location for the Kats 11812 case type block heater on the 2012 Hyundai Tucson with the 2.4 ltr transverse engine as I bought the veh in Arizona and moved to MN and the anti-freeze I have tested and it is rating at -25 deg F. As I know it gets in the negative 40s or colder here in MN. Any advise would be appreciated.

I understand your confusion as the installation manual for the Kat's Heaters Custom Fit Engine Block Heater part # KH11812 on your 2012 Hyundai Tucson with the 2.4L I4 engine are bit hard to understand. I will certainly do my best to help guide you in the right direction but as I do not have the engine and vehicle in front of me it would be hard for me to provide you with an exact location.

I can however confirm that left front (LF) is the correct position in which the heater will need to be installed on the engine block but as the diagram is tricky to understand, I have attached a new drawing I think will give you a better idea where the heater goes.
