Question:
I have a 93 Mazda B2600i 4x4 cab plus truck. I have a tandum axle utility trailor that currently has a 4 poll harness. Can I change to a 6 or 7 poll harness so I can add back up lights and maybe an additional power source. I just added LED stop and turn lamps and baught 6 other LED running lights that I havent installed yet. My truck doesnt have the purple or orange auxillary wires that your diagram shows. Can I add these? And can my electrical system handle it. My owners manuel doesnt have info on electrical loads that I could find. The kind of amps we are talking about seems minimal as far as loads for existing wiring but I dont really know. I will also need a powered converter. Which one should I get?

Expert Reply:
Because LED running lights use much less power than their incandescent counterparts, you should not be in any danger of overloading anything. Because of that, and because your truck already has the 4 pole connector, you do not need a converter. Your signal is already converted. You can certainly use a 4 to 6 pole adapter, part # 37175 or a 4 to 7 pole adapter, part # 37185. The powered accessory lead would use the black wire on the 7 way adapter and the blue wire on the 6 way. You would run that wire to a 40 amp circuit breaker, part # 9510, and then to the battery. The wire for the reverse lights would tap into the reverse lights on the vehicle.
