If you have the factory 7-way connector on your 2008 Ford Explorer the factory brake controller plug will be located behind the glove box on the left side. You will open the glove box, push in the two tabs it rests on to get it to open further and the 6-pin connector is buried on the left hand side, close to the center console. I am including a link to installation instructions that will show what the 6-pin connector will look like.
If you have the factory 4-Way connector on your 2008 Ford Explorer you will need to hardwire in the brake controller using the Brake Controller Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. The # ETBC7 kit contains all the wiring you will need to take your 4-Way connector to a 4-Way and 7-Way combination connector and wire the brake controller.
I am including a link to a FAQ page on installing the # ETBC7 kit.
