Question:

Jameson, Since I cannot open the hatch on my 2011 Subaru Forester with the bike rack tilted up, is there enough clearance for me to tilt the rack up without opening the hatch? The Saris bike rack that you suggested is more than I want to spend. Thanks,

Both of the racks you mentioned will fit folded down on your 2011 Subaru Forester but not folded up.

For a platform rack that would fit and work well the Saris Freedom Superclamp part # SA4025F would be a great option. It doesn't fold up but it's rail design is narrow enough that there really wouldn't be anything to ever fold up. It also only touches the bikes at the tires and is lightweight for a platform rack at 35 lbs.

It's hard for me to say for certain if you'd have the clearance needed for what you asked about, but the Hollywood Racks part # HR200Z would be a similar in clearance bike rack to the Saris in that the bike hoops are close enough that you wouldn't gain anything by folding the rack up. Would also easily clear your rear bumper.
