Based on my research, it is required that you disconnect your battery during towing. The Automatic Battery Disconnect For Towed Vehicles, Item # RM-766, is what you need. Consult your owner's manual to confirm what you need to do for your Smart car. If you need anything else to flat tow your Smart car then let me know.
