Bouncy Ride With the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate 2016 Ford F-150

Question:
I have the air lift 5000 ultimate internal jounce installed on my 2016 f150. Works great when towing but when I am not towing the ride is very stiff even when no air is in the bags. Also, when going over bumps at moderate speed, it feels as though the air bags bounce off the internal jounce. Is this common? Can I fix this?

Expert Reply:
The Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs with Internal Jounce Bumpers part # AL88385 on your 2016 Ford F-150 should be left at a minimum of 5 psi while unloaded to ensure the bags do not deform. In addition to deformity prevention, leaving the airbags at 5 psi will not cause the internal jounce springs to engage as soon. Leaving all air out of the airbags will cause the jounce springs to engage much more frequently which is likely creating the stiff and bouncy ride you are experiencing.
If you choose to opt out of the integral jounce bumper feature, you can replace them for a set of airbags that do not have this feature with the Replacement Air Spring for Air Lift LoadLifter part # AL50290.
