Question:

Is the 1500 pound rating for each line? Also is this a failure limit, or is there some safety factor built in?

The Overall weight limit for the Dutton-Lainson Worm Gear Hand Winch with Split Reel, item # DL10952, is 1500 lbs.

Winch capacity is based on direct line pull on the first layer of line on the drum. Capacity is reduced as line builds up on the drum. For each additional layer, the capacity is reduced by an additional 10 percent.

We cannot recommend exceeding the weight capacity rating of any of the winches that we carry.
