I used this winch as a lift mechanism for my kayak. The dual rope application allowed me to lift two lines at the same time. I would have liked to have an adapter for power driver operation, but devised a means to accomplish this task. A few less turns would have simplified the operation, but overall it works fairly well.3137077

I used the split reel winch to make a lift for storing bins in my attic, it works great.


Used a 3/8" universal joint for alignment and #35 chain and gears to over come the 30:1
The split drum allowed me to reeve the lift up in the bite, used 1/4 inch solid braid nylon.
Can use the hand crank (removable) or the electric drill.
The bottom of the lift platform is the ceiling panel.883280

Great, just as it was made to do

Bought this winch for a homemade pickup truck camper-shell lift rigged to my metal carport. Works great! In fact this is a very well built, heavy, solid and smooth operating winch, more so than I expected and well worth the price.1719300

Amazing piece of kit! I’m using it in a little bit of a non-traditional application, to raise and lower an access ladder for a treetop adventure playground, to make sure it is not accessible when no one is around to supervise. The winch base was solid, stable and very easy to install. The double drums reel the cable in evenly and smoothly, the mechanical advantage from the worm drive makes it easy to lift the 400-lb ladder, although it takes about 10 minutes to raise it 30 ft by hand. Connecting a cordless drill gets it up in about a minute. Great product, searched the internet and couldn’t find anything comparable.593324

Still works just fine, thanks for the follow up.

Show me an Archimedes screw and a 30-1 gear ratio and I'll show you some mechanical advantage. This comes at the cost of many, many turns of that winch handle however.

That said, this is a review of a winch and not an indictment of physics.

What I like about this one is it's silent and doesn't need a brake. The screw moves the big gear but the big gear can't move the screw. You can let go of the handle at any time and it'll neither drop the load nor thwack passers by.

Winch looks good, solid and well built. Haven't had a chance to use it yet but the gears engage nicely and it inspires confidence. The first one I ordered never showed up. UPS just completely dropped the ball, and it was impossible to find out what happened or when it would be delivered, as they are not staffing calls for "non-urgent" shipments. I reached out to Etrailer, and within hours, they sent me another winch, with upgraded shipping at no cost. This second winch arrived in short order (still no idea what happened to the first one) so hats off to Etrailer for fixing UPS' problem, and for being delightful to deal with.853431

Great product, solid, sturdy, and works for me day after day. I actually use this to raise and lower an HO scale model train table in my garage. I can get it up high enough to park the cars under, and using my cordless power drill, lower it in seconds. Everything it was advertised to be. Thanks etrailer.com808011

My only suggestion would be to add product dimensions to your online catalog. I took a risk on the size of the winch. It worked out fine as I had a lot of clearance for my application but it could have been a problem if I was trying to fit it into a tight space.80139

The double barrel worm screw is a perfect replacement for a single man host to remove my hard top Jeep. The original worm screw that came on the host was very inadequate to say the least.
