Question:
What is the difference between DL10976 and DL10954? They both appear to be oriented for ceiling mount, and both turn with a loop drive, presumably both compatible with the optional extra hex shaft DL406102. I see DL10976 is a split reel, which Im not clear on its purpose - does it allow one thing to be lowered and one to be lifted at the same time, even acting to counterweight each other to put less net load on the worm gear but more load on the mounting mechanism? Do both sides of the split reel need to be used at the same time, or can I use the DL10976 as a single reel most of the time? Im mostly interested in the single reel application, but DL10954 seems to be out of stock for a while, plus I wouldnt mind having the extra split reel functionality as long as its an extra feature that I dont necessarily need to use every time.

The Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL10976 will have the split reel and it is also rated for 2,000lbs while the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch # DL10954 is only rated for 1,500lbs.
The split reel design will allows for simultaneous operation of two lines from opposite directions giving more versatility. It is not to be used for raising one object and lowering at the same time. And you will not need to use both sides to use the split reel winch.
Both winches will accept the Hex Shaft # DL406102 allowing you to use a cordless drill to operate the jack.

I have a bed mounted truck crane mounted on a flat bed truck. The problem is if the truck is not level the load will pull the boom towards the low side. Can this split winch be used with both cable ends anchored to something welded to the movable vertical support for the crane so that when the winch is cranked one way it unwinds the same amount from the other side to turn the crane boom. I modeled it with a pencil and shoe lace wrapped around it and it seems to work. I'm assuming enough wrap on the winch spool and around the vertical support to ensure a full 360 degree rotation can be achieved. Thanks.
