Question:

Hi there! Im looking to setup a flat tow setup for my 1990 Mazda Miata towing behind my 2015 Toyota Tacoma. Looks like I need Roadmaster 711-4 and RM-020. Anything else? I just want to ensure I'm getting everything I need.

In order to flat tow your 1990 Mazda Miata you are going to need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, wiring to activate brake and turn signal lights, a supplemental braking system and likely a high-low adapter.

The base plates that fit your Miata are the RoadMaster XL # 711-4 and the compatible RoadMaster Tracker Tow Bar # RM-020 which you referenced. For safety chains you can use the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables # RM-643.

There are a couple of options for you when it comes to wiring for your lights. If you do not plan on flat towing your Miata often, I recommend using the Heavy Duty Magnetic Tow Lights # TL21RK, which sit on top of your Mazda. However, if you do plan on flat towing with any regularity, I recommend using the RoadMaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154. This will allow your Miata's brake lights and turn signals to function.

For a supplemental braking system, I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251, which applies your Miata's brakes in proportion with the brakes on your RV. This is a one-time install that you will not have to remove, connect or disconnect afterwards.

Finally, the high-low adapter you need is going to depend on some measurements you'll need to take. I have added a link to a help article on high-low adapters which explains the measurements you'll need, as well as a link to our page with each of our adapters.

I've also added links to video reviews and installs of these parts for you to take a look at.
