I do have a base plate kit that is compatible with your 2016 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 Trail Boss but the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit part # RM-523182-5 is not a confirmed fit for the Z71 Trail Boss package.

For a base plate kit that is compatible with your vehicle, I recommend using the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit part # BX1721 as this is the only base plate kit we have list as a fit with the Z71 and Trail Boss packages. We also have an installation video of this kit installed on a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado which I have attached for you. I also recommend using the Loctite Threadlocker 262 part # LT37420 for all fasteners that attach this base plate to the vehicle.

You will also need a tow bar that is compatible with the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit and for that I recommend using the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar part # BX7380 as it includes safety cables and can be used on vehicles up to 6,500 lbs. which is ideal for your light duty truck.

In order to complete your flat towing setup, you will want a wiring harness, supplemental braking system, and possible high-low adapter. For these items, I recommend using the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit part # RM-15267 and the Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System part # RM-8700. According to Roadmaster, you will also need to use the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System part # RM-766 in addition to our Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit part # RM-751472.

If the center of the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit is not within 3" from the top of your RV's hitch receiver, you will also want a high-low adapter which I have attached a list of for you

Once you have all of these items, you will not need any other piece of equipment in order to safely tow your vehicle from behind a motorhome. Fortunately, the Chevrolet Colorado is a very popular flat tow vehicle therefore, we have installation videos of almost all of these products installed on a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado which I have attached for you.

In order to use your Roadmaster tow bar with the Blue-Ox base plates you will want to use the Blue Ox Base Plate Adapter Brackets for Roadmaster Tow Bars part # BX88151. This adapter works with the Roadmaster Falcon, Sterling and Eagle tow bars. If you have a different Roadmaster tow bar, please let me know which one you have and I would be glad to offer an adapter for you.
