Question:
I have a minicooper 2007 manual and it is a push start system. I just got the blue ox kit to tow it behind my rv. How to unlock the steering Wheel ? Should it be placed in ACC or switched on? I cant unlock the steering wheel without starting the car. Il must be an other way. Blue ox is nice to sell us this kit but is silent on how to use it. How to use a blue ox kit should not be limited to physical connection maneuvers, but should also includes how to set the car correctly. Thank you for your help.

I spoke with our flat towing contact Remco, and they informed me that in order to release the steering wheel lock mechanism on your 2007 Mini Cooper with manual transmission and push to start ignition, you will want to start the vehicle, place the vehicle in neutral then shut off the vehicle. Once done, this should unlock the vehicle's steering wheel. You will also want to be sure to review your owner's manual before you begin to flat tow for any other specific instructions.
In order to safely flat tow your Mini with all four wheels down, you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, supplemental braking system, wiring harness, and possible high-low adapter. I would also agree that Blue-Ox has a very nice system for this vehicle. If you do not already have a wiring harness or supplemental braking system, I recommend using both the Roadmaster InvisiBrake Supplemental Braking System part # RM-8700 and the Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit with Bulbs part # RM-155. The Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit part # RM-751440 is also a requirement for this vehcile.
I have attached a list of our high-low adapter for you to check out if the center of the base plate on your vehicle is not within 3" from the top of your RV's hitch receiver.
