If your 2002 Dodge Dakota does not have a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector at the rear, you will need 3 items to install a brake controller. First, you will need the brake controller itself. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, # 90885. The P2 is one of our most popular brake controllers because it is easy to set up and use.
Next, you will need a 4-Way trailer wiring harness if you do not already have one. To add one, you will need Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118329. I have included a link to the installation details and a video showing a typical installation for reference.
With a 4-Way installed, the last part you will need is 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit # ETBC7. This will provide a 7-Way trailer connector, while still retaining 4-Way functionality as well, all the wiring and circuit breakers needed for installation. I have included 2 FAQ articles that explain the ETBC7 installation along with a video showing a typical installation. I have also included a link to the brake controller instructions.
