Transmission Cooler Recommendation for Subaru Forester Towing Trailer
Updated 06/16/2017 | Published 06/15/2017 >
Question:
We intend to carry equipment dogs/kayaks/gear and haul a tent trailer with a Subaru that has a 2.5-liter DOHC engine. Would you recommend an additional oil/transmission fluid cooler for this kind of load with this type of engine/vehicle? Thanks,

A transmission cooler would be a great option as they really do help for vehicles that are towing. But an oil cooler wouldn't really be needed. Most modern vehicles don't need them since the radiators now are so efficient.
I would recommend a transmission cooler for basically every vehicle with an automatic transmission. Since heat is the number one killer of transmissions a cooler is a cheap insurance policy to allow your transmission to last as long as possible.
The best way to pick out a cooler is to go with the largest one that will fit the available space in front of your radiator/AC condenser. The part # D13503 is a very popular choice that measures 11" Wide x 8-3/4" tall x 7/8" deep.
I attached an install video for you to check out as well.
