When Is It Necessary To Match The Correct Pilot Hole Size For Replacement Trailer Wheel
Updated 03/22/2011 | Published 03/19/2011 >
Question:
I need the pilot hole to be approximately 3.25 inches. You dont list that in your discription. Ive looked at other wheels/tires and the pilot hole where it fits on the hub varies in size.

Expert Reply:
The only time you have to match up the pilot hole is when your hub uses lug bolts, which then would use a hub-centric wheel. As long as your trailer hub uses lug nuts, the pilot hole will not effect mounting your wheel to the trailer hub because the lugs will center the wheel on the hub.
You will need to measure the bolt pattern of your trailer to determine the correct wheel you will need for your trailer (see FAQ). You will also want to choose a wheel with a larger pilot hole size than the hub.
I have linked an FAQ and video review on measuring bolt patterns that you may find as a good reference.
