Question:

on 2010 Dodge Journeys, they are equiped with trailer sway controller. When installing a brake controller using the ETBC7 wire harness, does it have to be wired into the module for the trailer sway feature? Dodge offers a trailer tow harness that appears to be more than just for powering trailer lights. Not sure what is the correct product to use that will give the best results and will result in a easy installation. Your input would be gratly appriceated

When installing a 4 and 7 Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7, it bypasses any factory installed system because it is a hardwire application so it will not be connected to the sway control components on your 2010 Dodge Journey. If you do not already have a 4-Way trailer wiring harness installed, you will need to add one before installing the EBTC7 kit. You will need Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118495. I have included a link to the installation details for reference.

While I do not know the function of the Dodge wiring harness you refer to I do know that there is not a plug and play aftermarket option available. The hardwire installation is actually not very difficult at all and works well. And, since only the connection for the trailer lights is used, it will not interfere with the electronic sway control.
