In order to determine the correct disc brake setup to use on a 5 ton trailer, I would need to know the capacity of your trailer's axles. You can find this by locating the information tag placed on the center of the axle or by calling the dealer with your VIN.
I have listed my disc brake recommendation for the following axle capacities:
3,500 lbs : 2 Kodiak Disc Brake Kit part # K2HR35D
5,200 lbs : 2 Kodiak Disc Brake Kit part # K2R526D
7,000 lbs : 2 Kodiak Disc Brake Kit part # K2HR712D
Remember, disc brakes are only compatible with a hydraulic braking system. In order to use the surge brakes with an aftermarket brake controller you will need an electric over hydraulic controller such as the HydraStar Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator part # HBA16 in addition to a brake controller. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195, if you do not already have one.
I have attached a few product reviews and installations for your viewing.
