Question:
Hi - I have an 82 Burro trailer that I rewired a few years ago 4-pin system, and added LED brake and running lights at that time. Now Id like to add a third LED brake light, but am reading confusing things about adding a converter in the mix, etc. I only want the new light to function as a brake light - not a running light. Id like to just use a plain 2x4 marker light. Any advice?

To install a third LED brake light on your trailer, you will just need to separate out the combined turn signal/brake light circuits in order to get a dedicate brake light only function.
To install a light like the Optronics LED Trailer Tail Light # STL57RB, you will need to use the Tow Ready Converter # 118158, along with two diodes # RM-690 to prevent back feeding. These are needed because trailers have a combined system, meaning they have one wire for left turn and brake lights and another for right turn and brake lights. If your trailer happens to have just one wire for turn signals and a separate wire for brake lights only, then you will not need the converter or diodes and can just splice into the brake light wire on your trailer.
I have attached a wiring diagram that may be helpful.
