Do 175/80-13 Size Tires Have the Right Weight Capacity for a 2,500 lb Trailer

Question:

I have a utility trailer rated for 2500 lbs currently has st175/80d13 tires on it. Is this correct?

It all depends on the load range of your tires. If you look on the sidewall of your current 175/80-13 tires you should be able to find the load range imprinted/stamped somewhere.

Here are the load range capacities for your specific tire size of 175/80-13:

B: 1,100 lbs at 35 psi
C: 1,360 lbs at 50 psi
D: 1,610 lbs at 65 psi

Since you add the weight capacity of both tires, as long as they have a load range of C or D, then you have tires that can handle the weight capacity of 2,500 lbs.

If your tires are in the load range B then then you will either be limited to 2,200 lbs on your trailer, or you can upgrade to the Kenda Loadstar # AM3S120 which uses a 4 on 4 bolt pattern and is a load range C, or the Taskmaster Provider # TA73RR which uses a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and is a load range C.
