Recommended Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch And Rails For 2007 Chevy 2500 With 6.5 Foot Bed

Updated 04/04/2017 | Published 04/03/2017

Question:

Hello. I purchased a used Husky 16k fifth wheel from a friend recently. Valley 7054 is on the label. I have the hitch, rails, some L brackets, and some hardware. Which kit would you recommend for mounting it in a 2007 Chevy 2500hd classic crew cab. 6.5 foot bed. I will also need the pins that attach the hitch to the rail. Thanks

For your 2007 Chevy 2500 with 6.5 foot bed, if you want to use your current rails, you will need some new hardware as it is not wise to use old hardware on these 5th wheel rails. I recommend the Replacement Hardware for Curt Universal 5th Wheel Installation Kit - 10 Bolt # C16111.

If you want new custom rails for your truck for an easier install an no drilling into your frame, you will want the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50064-58, which comes with the hardware you need. This will fit either the classic or new body style they introduced in 2007.

Because you have a short bed truck it is highly recommended to use a sliding hitch instead of a standard 5th wheel hitch so your RV doesn't come in contact with your truck cab on tight turns. I recommend using the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs # RP30051 or you can get the sliding base # HT31196 for your Husky 16K head. The Reese hitch will come with the pins needed. If you decide to use another hitch option or the slider base, the Fifth Wheel Hitch Replacement Pins and Clips (Qty 4) is part # 6014.
